Bone-inspired Special Moment Resisting Frame made of concrete mentioned in ASCE’s Journal of Structural Engineering

Diana Chen, GAANN Research Fellow at the Glenn Department of Civil Engineering of Clemson University presented her paper “Lessons of a Coral Reef: Biomimicry for Structural Engineers” that was published in ASCE’s Journal of Structural Engineering. In the article’s section Design Characteristics Seen in Nature, Ms. Chen introduced the bone-inspired structure project started at the School of Architecture of the University of Puerto Rico, and currently being under development at the School of Architecture of the Pontifical Catholic University of Puerto Rico. Ms. Chen included the project of Wilfredo Mendez in her article as an example of where structural engineers should be headed.
